AYIYI! This is what we DJs like to call...the zone! This is a straight set of great tracks spanning almost TWO HOURS! As a radio DJ...sometimes, I like to get loud and rock out. I feel I can't help but not rock out! I just finished up school and now it's out of the way forever and I had to celebrate, so I took some serious preparation and put together a wild energetic radio mix that was less like a radio show and more like a serious DJ hoedown. Giddyup Y'all!

BTW to everyone that has contacted me, I will get back to you as soon as possible. I now have alot of time on my hands to devote to this blog and I will post all of the e-mail goodness that I have in store as a high priority. I have been very busy as of late.

Wowzers and wassup y'all? It's a fantastic day up in Pittsburgh, PA. I want to give a shout out to Diplo for calling in the show after giving him a shout out on the air. For all of you out in the Pittsburgh area...the show is at 10:00 tonight at Diesel. Opening acts include LazerCrunk (cutups & keeb$) and the Commonwealth Family.

I had a blast doing today's show. I used alot of unexpected tracks to make this radio mix today. I think the one track that made this mix is the Yello track that was used in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. (see post below) I feel as a DJ, my job is to bring these tracks back in a new context for a newer generation of beat fans to really enjoy. That, and I've been fiending to mash up some Prodigy in the mix. That's where "Breathe" comes in. I got "The Fat of the Land" as a 13th birthday present, so I included this track in the mix as a little homage to 1997.

Today's show was a good one. A couple of studio glitches (mainly the delay on the studio monitor speakers) posed some difficulties, but not major. Still a solid show.

I decided to play some of my older tracks from my IDM/Experimental days mixed with some of my favorite leftfield tracks to create a different kind of atmosphere I never really thought about trying on air. Just to mess around with something different. The first 45-60 minutes or so reflect this.

But of course, the second hour of the show is dedicated to the grooves. So, I just got into the flow of mixing some tracks together from the HD. I threw in the classic Underworld "Dark and Long" remix from Sasha & Digweed because I have been feeling that track for years ever since I heard it on a mix on the WRCT station in the late nineties. Also, Trainspotting has been one of my quintessential favorites as far as movies is concerned since it came out.

The March 26th show was a "farewell" of sorts, to my vinyl collection completely as I recently purchased a new laptop. My stance is 100% digital baby. So, I took the best records in my collection, filled the back of my car up, and headed towards CMU with the intents of taking the skills and selection abilioties that I had been honing on as of late with the best of my collection. I wish it was three hours, because I had more than enough vinyl for then. Needless to say, I think everyone out there will be able to dig this week's show.

Aloto of this is stuff that I've acquired in 10 years (!!!!) of collecting records. Interesting music from many talented producers, including my personal favorites.

I guess this leads into the beginnings of my fascination and eventual involvement in electronic music. I grew up in a family that was big on funk, disco, afrobeat, It was in 1997 when I was in Junior High school. I was thirteen years old and buying the best new electronic music cds from DJ Shadow, the Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Gus Gus, Underworld, Photek, and Aphex Twin. It wasn't until the rave scene began poppin' off in summer of 1998 that I really became obssessed with this music and this sound. the energy of the music the crowd, the styles. Plus, being a skateboarder and rolling in those circles, I eventually became introduced to these things because I was young and wildn out. I had the hip-hop mixtapes on lock, went to a couple of punk shows, but it really wasn't until I found THIS...that I became who I am now.

Alot of these records I came across from many great record stores in Pittsburgh located in oakland around the late 1990s, early 2000s. As well, from stores in Philadelphia, London, Spain, and Detroit. When I began spinning vinyl, it was in the spring of 2002. I actually decided to buy decks and a mixer and began to learn ho to blend tracks as well, mix, cut, scratch, etc. I have been DJing ever since and these are the songs and timeless pieces of music that have come into my life along the way. Everything from french house, downbeat, detroit, hip-hop, electro, minimal, big beat, and much more would just randomly come together in mixes in my basement where I stopped thinking in terms of genre and more in terms of rhythm and feel.

3.5.09

Today's show features DJ Tommy via. Mans & Them Soundsystem who spun an hour of some nice dubstep mixed with soca and funky house.

A slight deviation from the normal "blog house" that has been spun on the show. This episode was lit up with nice minimal and progressive tracks with more of a darker atmosphere than in previous shows. Enjoy!

Tracklisting coming very soon...
